Thinking about it, there's been a strange dichotomy between ports in the home theater space and what you see in the PC world. Whereas Macs and Windows PCs have been taken over by tiny connectors in the form of USB-C and Thunderbolt, the HDMI ports on TVs have remained unchanged, dimension-wise, since 2004. There are plenty of reasons you wouldn't want to use an HDMI 1.0 cable in 2026 -- but strictly speaking, it would still plug into any TV, from the cheapest ones to models costing six digits.
